Marcelo Cidade is graduated in Fine Arts by Fundao Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP). In So Paulo, Cidade creates works that express complex social conflicts and bring signs and situations from the street into spaces given over to art. One of his particular interests is the public space generated in urban areas and the technological flux of our surveillance society.

A background as a graffiti artist has led Marcelo Cidade to his current practice, linking street culture with the language of contemporary art. His installation, performance, and video works take up themes of risk, surveillance, urban development, and the dynamics of public and private space. In the 2006 installation Transestatal, he built a fountain in the gallery space from a massive accumulation of debris found in the streets of So Paulo.

Cidade lives and works in So Paulo.
